Abreu is eligible to return Thursday, and it looks like he’ll be ready then. With Rafael Devers gone, the Red Sox will likely give Roman Anthony a lot of DH time, with Jarren Duran also occasionally occupying the spot. Abreu will resume his platoon with Rob Refsnyder.
  • BOS Relief Pitcher #44
What year is it? Chapman continues to throw the baseball past hitters, and he needed just 13 pitches to mow down the Seattle order while picking up his 13th save. Two of those offerings were clocked above 100 mph, and he lowered his ERA to 1.50 in the process.
  • BOS Starting Pitcher #54
This was vintage Giolito, with help by a vintage Seattle Mariner offensive performance. The 30-year-old was able to procure 18 swings-and-misses on 91 pitches, and all three hits allowed were singles. In fact, all three knocks came back-to-back-to-back in the third inning, and Giolito struck out the next three hitters he faced, including Cal Raleigh to end the threat. That’s back-to-back impressive outings for Giolito to lower his ERA from 6.42 to 4.73. He’ll take on the Giants in San Francisco next week while squaring off against former teammate Rafael Devers.
  • BOS Center Fielder #16
Duran took advantage of a misplay by Dom Canzone in the corner outfield and put his ever-so-impressive wheels to use. That’s already the eighth triple of the season for the 28-year-old, which puts him on pace for 17 in 2025. It’d be easy to say that number isn’t sustainable, but he’s coming off a 14-triple season in 2025, so, sure.
  • BOS Center Fielder #19
Anthony’s first big-league round-tripper came off Logan Gilbert in the first inning. The 21-year-old went hitless for the remainder of the contest, and he’s hitting just .095 since being promoted from Triple-A Worcester. Still, this was a reminder that Anthony possesses immense talent, and it seems likely that more balls are going to find their way over the fence in the coming weeks.
  • BOS 3rd Baseman #40
Eaton was up with the Red Sox for a quick cup of coffee earlier this month. The versatile 28-year-old returns to the majors in the wake of Boston’s decision to trade franchise icon Rafael Devers to San Francisco. He’ll occupy a bench role for now and figures to split time between several defensive spots.
  • BOS Center Fielder #19
Whether he’s ready or not, Anthony is Boston’s de factor face of the franchise in the wake of the club’s stunning decision to jettison slugger Rafael Devers to San Francisco on Sunday night. The 21-year-old prodigy has been moved up to the third spot for Monday’s series opener in Seattle after hitting fifth in four consecutive games to open his big-league career. It’s a significant development from a fantasy perspective as the move should lead to an uptick in run-producing opportunities for Boston’s new middle-of-the-order threat.
  • BOS Relief Pitcher #67
The Red Sox had to clear a spot on their 40-man roster to accommodate their megadeal with the Giants on Sunday and unfortunately that left Penrod out in the cold. The 27-year-old southpaw has registered a 2.84 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and an 8/4 K/BB ratio over 6 1/3 innings in the minor leagues this season after missing the first few months with a left elbow strain. There’s a chance that he passes through waivers unclaimed and continues to serve as extra depth for the Red Sox.
  • SF 3rd Baseman #11
The trade is now official. San Francisco’s largest deficiency was their lack of a left-handed power option in the middle of their lineup and they addressed that need by acquiring one of the most formidable lefty sluggers in baseball. It’ll be fascinating to see how Devers is deployed — will he cover third base while Matt Chapman is sidelined, will he be willing to play first base or will he simply be stationed as the team’s designated hitter? But regardless of where he plays he represents a dramatic upgrade to the Giants’ lineup. Oracle Park isn’t a hitter’s paradise for left-handed sluggers, but Devers brand of elite over-the-fence pop is unlikely to be severely impacted. The fantasy value of his entire Giants supporting cast improves with this addition.
  • BOS Relief Pitcher
The one real unknown in this mega deal is Jose Bello. The 20-year-old right-hander was signed out of the Dominican Republic and has spent the past three seasons pitching in the lowest levels of the minor leagues. He has registered a 2.00 ERA, 0.72 WHIP and a 28/3 K/BB ratio over 18 innings for the Giants’ affiliate in the Arizona Complex League this season. He’s a very intriguing young arm but a long way from potentially helping out at the major league level.
